Where the Music Takes You

Mood: discontent

First, before I get to the meat of this post:

Work really sucks right now.

Bella wants me to get a physical, for her peace of mind.

I am attempting to control my moderately high blood pressure.

I have started working out on some sort of a regular basis.

I'm pondering drastic changes to my blog.

Okay, now the meat:

I am not happy with the direction my music is taking. I've grown bored with the electronic instrumental forms of music. I want to rock. I want to sing. I want my music to move people in the non-physical way that only meaningful lyrics can provide.

There's just one problem: I'm not a good lyricist. Well, it's not that I'm not good, it's just that I find lyrics extremely difficult to write well. But hearing that my brother, Eric, the much more talented musician, has problems with lyrics, too, makes me feel better. The music, we agreed, comes easily. I am confident that I can find a practical method for writing lyrics; the process can't possibly rely entirely on inspiration.

This new direction that the music is taking me may require the invention of a new persona. Lucky Tourist may have lived out its purpose. I think if I am going to take my music in an entirely different direction, a new moniker may help put my electronic music--and, more importantly, my limitations within it--behind me.

I'm thinking simple music with intelligent, clever lyrics. A tall order, I know, but I'm sure I can do it. Now, to find the time....
