Unexpected Generosities

Mood: Thankful
Last ate: Eggnog?!? They still sell that stuff?

So for the fourth time, I've received an unexpected generosity. I had thought of making an entry about this before this fourth generosity, but now I HAVE to write about it.

Just when it seems like the fates keep batting me down, people keep picking me up. As you know, with all the problems I've had with my business, I am essentially broke, falling into a deeper and deeper hole, scraping my knuckles raw trying to get out of it. But every time it seemed I would get back on track, something else would come along to knock me down. Most recently, all of my web sites including my business one (which, by the way, is my only means of income right now) were down. And this was AFTER I had just sent out a bunch of sales letters advertising my business. (I can only hope that I didn't lose too many prospects because of it.)

But along came the first generosity: Bella offered to pay not only for my past due balance on my web site hosting, but also for a class to teach me some of the industry-standard programs that I currently don't have access to. I hate the thought of her lending me money, but I am going to pay back every last penny... period! She is too kind....

The second generosity came from my best friend, Joey. He gave me a gift card to Best Buy for a ridiculously high amount that not only allowed me to add time to my prepaid cellphone, but also made it possible to thank Bella a little for all she has done for me by buying her a movie that was on her wish list. Joey is a far better friend than I deserve. I am so thankful for him.

The third generosity came from the most unlikely source: my cousin Ed. (Actually, Gran's cousin.) In addition to sending me a check for a large sum to put towards glasses (which I will need to get a driver's permit), he is also giving me leads for people that may need graphic design. And this from someone I haven't even met!

The fourth and most recent unexpected generosity came from my brother, Eric, last night. He offered to pay for a bus pass AND help with my getting glasses AND drive me around on his days off so I can look for a job. Eric has done so much for the family lately, none of us can ever repay his generosity.

With all these people being so generous, without my even asking for help, I feel a bit like George Bailey in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. As his guardian angel, Clarence, wrote: "Remember no man is a failure who has friends."

Atta boy, Clarence!

Ahhh... Hockey with Bella!

Mood: Euphoric

The hockey game was fabulous, even though the Ducks tied the game 4-4 and the goaltending was bad. Not a single great save to speak of. Yet Bella and I had a fantastic time and are already talking about going to another game sometime.

Oh yeah, and they were giving away free Ducks caps. Rock on! (Bella looks super cute in a cap!!!)

Well, I better get to bed. I need to have a very productive day tomorrow....

Tweaking

Okay, so I haven't started work yet. I've been tweaking this here blog instead. But, I reason, this blog is an example of my work, so I want it to look its best! Haha!

I have played with the layout a little bit, and I added a recent pic which I hope to update frequently.

(No luck on finding an NHL score ticker....)

Hockey Tonight!!!

Mood: EXCITED BEYOND BELIEF!
Weight: who cares right now?!?
Last ate: something I shouldn't have, but who cares right now?!?

I am incredibly excited about going to my first LA Kings game... even if it's at the Anaheim Pond against the Mighty Ducks. I have been a fan of the Kings since I saw my first few games in 1986 (purple and gold, baby!). But I didn't really start watching until 1988, the year that brought the Great One, Wayne Gretzky, to Los Angeles. I am predicting a Kings win, but then I haven't been able to watch much hockey in the last year or two, so I really have no idea what I'm talking about....

ISN'T BELLA AMAZINGLY, BEAUTIFULLY AWESOME FOR BUYING HOCKEY TICKETS?!?!? It just goes to show how much she loves me. And I hope I show her my love right back by not forcing her to watch hockey! ;)

Before getting down to work, I just thought I would also mention I added a really cool weather feature to my blog, thanks to the folks at WeatherRoom.com. Now if I could just add an NHL score ticker....

Got the Blues?

Mood: In Awe

On the way home from Bella's, I was listening to Solomon Burke's "Flesh and Blood" from his album DON'T GIVE UP ON ME. I'm surprised I didn't "feel" this song the first time I heard it. Listening to it as I walked home, and again now on infinite repeat as I write this, I find it to be one of the most moving songs I have ever heard. Burke's voice is versatile, powerful, emotional. I checked out his web site, TheKingSolomonBurke.com, and it doesn't do his music justice. Maybe I should offer my services? :)

Well, I'm going to play a little NHL 2001 before going to bed. I guess that means I have to take "Flesh and Blood" off repeat....

Hrumph!

Mood: Getting Sleepy

So on New Year's Day I tried making a rather lengthy journal entry, but when I went to post it it went into oblivion.

I had intended this entry to summarize the points of the lost entry, but now I'm too tired to try to remember what they were.

All I know is I am profoundly in love with Bella.

Oh, and that it's time for bed!
